We Are All Warriors

by | Nov 9, 2022

I’m pretty sure no one has ever called me a prayer warrior.

I pray, of course, and if you ask me to pray for you, I assure you I will. But I’ll need to set a reminder in my phone or jot a note to myself so I don’t forget. I believe in the power of prayer, I really do, but if I’m being honest I don’t exactly devote myself to it the way a prayer warrior would.

When I think of a prayer warrior, I think of those who pray on their knees and lay their requests before the throne of God with fervor, passion, and relentlessness.

You know those people, don’t you? When you hear them pray, you look around expecting to see mountains moving and to feel the ground shaking beneath your feet. They’re the people you ask to pray for you when you’re walking through inexplicable tragedy because you know they have God’s ear. They pray with such faith that you believe if they’re on your side of the battle, the victory is all but yours.

Warriors are forces to be reckoned with, wielding their weapon of prayer with courage and power. I’m blessed to know a few prayer warriors. I sometimes wish I could be a prayer warrior too. It turns out, I can be. And so can you

Jesus says that if our faith is only as small as a mustard seed, our prayers will have the power to move mountains (Matthew 17:20). We simply have to believe our words are falling on the ears of a God who can do great and mighty things. Our prayers offered in faith have the power to make the sick well and to bring rain from the sky. Our prayers are powerful and effective (James 5:16).

It’s our faith that makes us prayer warriors, and our faith is what will fight our battles in life.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This doesn’t sound like a request to me; it’s a command. Words like “always,” “continually,” and “all” don’t leave room for misinterpretation. True warriors take their orders and follow them to the letter. We must do the same. God, our leader to whom we answer, is telling us to rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances; this means without ceasing, no matter what. That kind of commitment takes determination.

From the time we rise until the time we lay our head back down at the end of the day, we are to be delighting, communing, and showing gratitude to God.

It sounds unrealistic. Only a true prayer warrior is capable of such constant prayer, not regular ol’ people like us, right? Yet how different would our lives be if we make faith-filled prayer a habit? What would happen to the battles we’re fighting if we rejoiced, prayed, and gave thanks day in and day out, without stopping and without giving up? I’ll tell you what, the enemies we face wouldn’t stand a chance. Evil shudders when we invoke the name of Jesus. Darkness flees.

Our prayers are our greatest weapon in the face of our circumstances.

They enlist the power of an all-mighty God. Our battles may overwhelm us, make us cringe, cry, or give up entirely, but that doesn’t mean we’ve lost. We have access to the same God that prayer warriors do. We are all warriors. Our battles belong to Him (2 Chronicles 20:15) and they will end in victory.

We’ve all heard of “blind trust,” of stepping forward in faith, believing what lies ahead is better than what we’re leaving behind.  Faith is easy to define, but never easy to live out. I think of the Israelites being led out of Egypt and into...
