When I was trapped in adultery, I felt alone and numb. I was lost, and I knew it, but I didn’t know how to turn around. The Holy Spirit began pursuing me despite the fact that I wasn’t pursuing Him. I was being lovingly convicted to turn back to God and my husband.

I had just left the man I had been having an affair with and was staying at a hotel. My feelings for that man hadn’t changed. I wasn’t sure if leaving him was the right decision and I was heartbroken. I cried out to God and asked Him to please take the pain from me. I prayed through tears, “if I made the right decision to leave this man please take my feelings for him away. Not only for my sake but also so I know You are real and You’re listening to me.” The next morning I woke up completely freed from all of my doubts and feelings for that man. It was a miracle. And I felt God’s goodness at that moment like never before.

After a time of healing that we both needed individually and receiving the counseling we needed together, my husband and I got remarried! We learned where we had gone wrong before and we have worked to strengthen those areas. We’ve both experienced God’s grace and forgiveness in ways that some people only hear about. I know I am truly loved by the Father.

If you are tempted to have an affair, I would advise you to tell your husband as soon as possible. Yes, it will be very hard. But, each step down the road of adultery will only make it that much harder. I know firsthand how difficult it is to ignore the strong feelings that come with an affair, so start praying against those feelings right away. They’re deceptive and you are being lied to. As exciting as it may feel in the beginning, in the end, it will be anything but.

If there has been adultery in your marriage, whether it was you or your spouse that had the affair, find a good, Christian counselor right away. Remember that you and your spouse are not each other’s enemies. Satan hates the family and delights in arguments, infidelity, and divorce. Don’t let him win!

It has taken patience, humility, understanding, and hard work, but our marriage is better than ever. I wouldn’t trade where we are now for anything! ~Heather
