It Goes By Fast

by | Nov 4, 2020

Ohhhh, my old friend November… We have a love/hate relationship, don’t we? I LOVE the feeling of fall in the air and pumpkin everything, but I am not a fan of how quickly time passes and before I know it, you are gone. We will blink again, and it will be January.

Friends, this is the moment to be intentional about how you will live out the rest of 2020. What memories do you want to create, what traditions do you want to embrace? Which ones do you not want to forget to experience?

For our family, I have a list of things that I love to do with our kids. Driving around with hot chocolate seeing Christmas lights, making paper rings that count down till Christmas, pausing to read and reflect on the Christmas story in the Bible, to name a few. I haven’t always gotten to all of them; I have to be intentional or life whisks me into January far too fast.

There is much to be done over the next few weeks: shopping, wrapping, work, play and it all adds up. We will inevitably find ourselves busy preparing for the Christmas season.

How do we enjoy life in the midst of busyness?

I love the example that we find in Luke through the story of Martha and Mary.

As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42

I encourage you to pause over the next few days and decide how to spend your time in ways that will bring the most meaning to the end of 2020. Choose to spend time with Jesus, slow down, enjoy the memories, and it will not be taken away from you.

It goes by fast friends.

Choosing what is better together,
