Do You Trust Him?

by | Apr 2, 2019

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act.” Psalms 37:5

Have you ever thought: If only had ____ then I’d be ___ enough?

Pretty enough… worthy enough… important enough….etc. If only I had their gifts… if only my life looked like that…if only I was in a different season…

What are we looking too to be our “enough”?

What are we looking too to qualify us?

Is Jesus “enough”? Do we trust Him? Do we trust the place He has us in? Do we trust our lives to His leading?

I want to tell you about a little girl named Amy. Her mom told her if she prayed, that God would answer her. Amy had dark hair and brown eyes, but always thought that light hair and blue eyes were the most beautiful. Little Amy prayed and prayed for blue eyes. She would wake up every morning and run to the mirror to see if her eye color had changed. When it hadn’t she would cry and be sad at God, not understanding at the time, the reality of His answer to her.

It wasn’t until years later, that Amy had a moment of realization which stopped her in her tracks. Amy had grown up and became a missionary in India. She quickly learned about the human trafficking and prostitution of children in the temples. She knew she had to do something. She began to stain her skin darker with coffee and dressed in a sari to blend in. This enabled her to begin to secretively rescue unwanted children from places she wouldn’t have had access too as a foreigner. She often traveled for days just to rescue an abandoned baby, or to smuggle a child out of a location.

It was on one of these secret trips that Amy stopped and realized if God had answered her prayers the way she had asked so many years ago, she would not have been able to blend in as a national and rescue so many children. Her blue eyes would have been a dead give away.

Her name was Amy Carmichael, and she founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, an orphanage for unwanted and abandoned children, and over the course of the 50 years she was in India, she rescued hundreds of children.

Amy Carmichael, whom her kids called “Amma”, meaning: “mother”

Don’t compare what others have to what you have or the season you are in. Your calling and your story is uniquely fitted to the gifting and the anointing that you have been given.

If God chose us in Christ, actually picking us out for Himself before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4); setting us apart with a purpose and a destiny before we were even formed in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5); will He not qualify (Colossians 1:12), and also equip us, with what we need to walk in the anointing we were given?

When we spend so much time focusing on what we think we DON’T have, instead of on what we DO have and the ONE who gave it to us, we miss out on walking in the fullness of who we are and what we have been called to do.

Comparison is a thief. Walking in gratitude and faith with our eyes on Him is the solution. There is no room for a divided focus.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all  your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30

“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.” Psalms 138:8

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I have all that I need.” Psalms 23:1

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10

Beautiful. I wanted blue eyes like my dad as well. Looking into the eyes of my children, who to most people look so much like their dad and seeing my eyes is a reminder to trust in God’s will for our lives. Thank you for the illustration of this Truth!
